BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU:
We focus on two martial arts at Grove City Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. The first is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). The adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program will focus on teaching students the techniques and principles that made BJJ the most efficient and effective fighting art in the world. The BJJ classes will be taught with the gi (kimono) however we also will offer no-gi classes. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was first made popular in the United States by Royce Gracie and the UFC in the early 1990's. Since then the popularity of BJJ has grown immensely. For it's effectiveness, it is one of the most sought after martial arts for MMA competition and self-defense. BJJ as it is also known, uses leverage to secure chokes and joint locks allowing a smaller weaker person to defeat a larger, stronger opponent.

If you want to compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, MMA, learn for self-defense or just learn BJJ for the sake of learning the most challenging and effective martial art in the world, we can design a program for you. Our head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor is Dave Freetage. Dave is a BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU BLACK BELT (one of the few in Ohio), under Professor Arthur Ruff. MUAY THAI:
The other martial art we focus on is Muay Thai, also called Thai Boxing, it is the national sport of Thailand. The art of 8 limbs, Muay Thai is a style of kickboxing where you will learn to use punches, kicks, knees and elbows to defend yourself or fight in the ring/cage. Muay Thai is one of the most popular arts used for striking in MMA and is a great art for self defense. This class will have techniques taught, pad work and conditioning. Sparring will also occur for advanced students for those who wish to spar.

This program is taught by CERTIFIED MUAY THAI INSTRUCTORS. Don't fall for any imitators or MMA versions of Muay Thai. This class is authentic Muay Thai techniques by CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS in MUAY THAI (which is rare). If your goal is to learn self defense, fight in the ring, fight MMA, lose weight, learn a martial art or become a Muay Thai instructor, come to our academy and we can help you achieve your goals. We will design a personal program that is specific to your goals.

KIDS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU:
The Kids martial arts program is kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In this class, kids will learn the basics of BJJ and earn rank in the kids ranking structure of BJJ. Grove City Jiu-Jitsu is the first academy in Grove City and the southwest Columbus to have a dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for kids. All kids classes are taught by adults who themselves are parents, police officers and experienced BJJ practitioners/instructors. The kids will get a great workout, have fun and learn self defense through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The kids will follow a curriculum for each belt so they can progress with a plan and not a "shotgun" approach to teaching as many other schools use. Parents are always welcome to watch the class. Parents will have the option for their child to attend once or twice a week for different price structures. The focus will be on teaching discipline, technique, improving coordination along with having fun. When the class size gets larger, we will split the age groups. Ages 14 and up will be in the adult classes.

COLUMBUS KICKBOXING ACADEMY:
This is a kickboxing program on Wednesday day and Friday evenings. The kickboxing program blends Muay Thai and other kickboxing styles to form an effective kickboxing style. You can earn rank in the kickboxing program by following a curriculum and progressing in the art. You will learn proper punch, kick, knee and elbow techniques while following a planned out curriculum to have you progress as a fighter or student. You will get in shape, improving your cardio, lose body fat while learning to defend yourself or fight in the ring depending on your goals. MMA (Mixed Martial Arts):
Do you want to be an MMA fighter or do MMA for fitness/self defense. We have a program that is being developed at the ground level. We are using the knowledge of the instructors in BJJ, Wrestling and Muay Thai to produce well rounded fighters.
